Ingredients
Scale
1 lb. ground beef
1 large green bell pepper, sliced
1 large onion, sliced
8 oz. sliced mushrooms
2 cloves of garlic, minced
1 tsp. dried oregano
1 tsp. dried basil
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. black pepper
1 cup beef broth
1/2 cup ketchup
2 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
8 oz. provolone cheese, sliced
8 hamburger buns
Instructions
In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef until browned and crumbled, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat from the pan.
Add the sliced bell pepper, onion, and mushrooms to the skillet with the browned beef. Sauté the vegetables until they are tender and the onions are translucent, about 7-10 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute, until fragrant.
In a small bowl, whisk together the beef broth, ketchup, and Worcestershire sauce. Pour the sauce into the skillet with the beef and vegetables. Stir to combine, then reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened to your desired consistency.
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Split the hamburger buns in half and place them on a baking sheet. Top each bun with a generous portion of the Philly cheese steak sloppy joe mixture, followed by a slice of provolone cheese.
Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Keep a close eye on them to ensure the buns don’t burn.
Remove the Philly cheese steak sloppy joes from the oven and serve them hot, with any desired toppings such as diced tomatoes, shredded lettuce, or a dollop of sour cream.
