  • 1 lb ground beef (lean or extra-lean for a healthier option)
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 bell pepper, diced (any color works great)
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 can (6 oz) tomato paste
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for topping)

  • Instructions

  • In a large skillet or Dutch oven, heat a drizzle of olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and use a wooden spoon to break it up into small crumbles as it cooks. Continue cooking until the beef is browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat from the pan.
  • Once the beef is browned, add the diced onion and minced garlic to the pan. Sauté for 2-3 minutes, or until the onion is translucent and the garlic is fragrant.
  • Add the diced bell pepper, canned diced tomatoes, tomato paste, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper to the pan. Stir everything together until well combined. Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, to allow the flavors to meld.
  • Once the simmering time is up, taste the ground beef mixture and adjust the seasoning if needed. Serve the dish hot, garnished with a sprinkle of grated Parmesan cheese (if desired).
