Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional, for a little heat)
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 cucumber, peeled, seeded, and grated
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh dill
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 810 pita bread or flatbread
  • Diced tomatoes, sliced red onion, and crumbled feta cheese (for serving)

  • Instructions

  • In a large bowl, combine the chicken, olive oil, oregano, cumin, garlic powder, paprika, cayenne (if using), salt, and black pepper. Toss to coat the chicken evenly. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 24 hours, to allow the flavors to meld.
  • In a medium bowl, mix together the Greek yogurt, grated cucumber, minced garlic, lemon juice, fresh dill, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Stir until well combined. Cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.
  • Heat a large skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Add the marinated chicken and cook for 12-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the chicken is cooked through and lightly browned on the edges.
  • Warm the pita bread according to the package instructions. Spread a generous amount of tzatziki sauce on the pita, then top with the cooked chicken, diced tomatoes, sliced red onion, and crumbled feta cheese.
  • Serve the Greek Chicken Gyros with the remaining tzatziki sauce on the side, allowing your guests to customize their gyros to their liking. Savor the delightful blend of flavors and textures in every bite.
